In South Africa, over 1100 people were killed on the roads over the 2010 Christmas season alone. A staggering 15 000 people in total lose their lives every year on South African roads, with a global rate of 1.3 million per year. Consequentially, these accidents cost South Africa R50 billion in lost income, insurance, medical costs and lost revenue.
